Mayor Don McCormick is serving his second term as Mayor, third on Council. Strongly committed to his Kimberley community, he served as president of the Kimberley Rotary Club, the Kimberley Chamber of Commerce, founding Director of Tourism Kimberley and as past Chair of the Community Futures East Kootenay Board of Directors. Don’s brings his vast business experience (17 years of corporate sales and marketing and the last 20 years with start-ups) to his position as a mayor. In fact, he makes a compelling comparison of a CEO running a company and a Mayor. “Clearly,” he says: “there are major differences, but in my opinion you can indeed operate as a business to the benefit of the taxpayers.” Kimberley re-invented itself from a mining town to fabulous ski resort, with a strong focus on lifestyle and the environment. Also, Kimberley’s ‘Sunmine’ has won some worldwide acclaim. Don’s vision is an affordable, sustainable Kimberley that manages its resources in a way that lets us enjoy our chosen lifestyle while also ensuring that it will be shared by future generations.
